چکیده
1— In this paper we present a monocular vision system for a navigation aid. The system assists blind persons in following paths and sidewalks, and it alerts the user to moving obstacles which may be on collision course. Path borders and the vanishing point are detected by edges and an adapted Hough transform. Optical flow is detected by using a hierarchical, multi-scale tree structure with annotated keypoints. The tree structure also allows to segregate moving objects, indicating where on the path the objects are. Moreover, the centre of the object relative to the vanishing point indicates whether an object is approaching or not.

متن کاملElderly Centered Design for Interaction - The Case of the S4S Medication Assistant
Several aspects of older adults’ life can benefit from recent technological developments, but success in harnessing this potential depends on careful design and accessible, easy to use products. Design and development must be centered on the elderly and adequately consider interaction. In this paper we follow this design approach and put it to the test in developing a concrete application, aime...

1— The goal of the project "SmartVision: active vision for the blind" is to develop a small and portable but intelligent and reliable system for assisting the blind and visually impaired while navigating autonomously, both outdoor and indoor. In this paper we present an overview of the prototype, design issues, and its different modules which integrate a GIS with GPS, Wi-Fi, RFID tags and compu...
متن کاملRoboGuideDog: Guiding Blind users Through Physical Environments with Laser Range Scanners
In this paper we discuss initial concepts of the development of a fully automatic guide dog system for blind users. The physical scene is scanned using a laser range device, and the three dimensional point cloud measurements are analyzed and transformed into a description of the environment that is communicated to the user via synthetic speech and/or haptic feedback allowing the user to navigat...
